What is Rotator Cuff Injury Treatment?
The rotator cuff is a group of four muscles whose tendons form a cuff around the head of the humerus. These muscles are responsible for stabilising the shoulder joint and controlling arm movements. Rotator cuff injuries range from tendinopathy to partial and full thickness tears and are extremely common, particularly in people over 40.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need surgery for a rotator cuff tear?
Many rotator cuff tears including some full thickness tears can be successfully managed with physiotherapy alone. Surgery is typically considered only when conservative treatment has failed.
How long does rotator cuff rehabilitation take?
Rotator cuff tendinopathy typically responds within 8 to 12 weeks. Partial tears may take 12 to 16 weeks. Full thickness tears managed conservatively can take 4 to 6 months.
Can I still use my shoulder during rehabilitation?
Yes in a modified way. Complete rest is not recommended. We will guide you on what movements are safe and how to keep your shoulder functioning during recovery.
Is my rotator cuff the cause of my shoulder pain?
Rotator cuff pathology is one of the most common causes of shoulder pain but not the only one. Your physio will rule out other causes during your assessment.
